Tiling

Tiling

We tile all areas with strategic planning and surface preparation.

We love to see the beauty of tiling through the artistry of the organisation of the tiles and how level they look and feel. When we lay our tiles we ensure the tile is evenly spaced without large unnecessary gaps around the edges.

Wall tiling

We tile kitchen splashback, bathroom walls, wetrooms, and showers. Most of the time when tiling walls the idea is to prevent moisture and water from penetrating the walls and causing damage. Therefore it is very important the tile glue is the right type e.g. bathroom specified and it is applied to cover the wall before the tile is laid. This will prevent moisture from getting to the wall.

If the wall tile is not waterproof and is used in the bathroom area, over time water will find its way to penetrate the tile and glue it to the wall. It is also applicable to use a waterproofing membrane at the back of the wall to prevent water damage. However, if after using this the tiles and the glue are not waterproof it will still affect the quality of the job. Tiling a floor requires the necessary preparation, most importantly the floor must be firm and level before tiles can be laid.

For wooden floors, a ply wood may be used to reinforce the strength of the floors to avoid movement (if there are movements it may cause the tiles to crake or the grout to come off). It’s also very important to make sure that the floor tile glue has 100% coverage on the floor or the back of the tile before laying, sometimes 95% coverage can be manageable if the area is not so exposed to loads of treading.

In bathrooms or shower floors, it is very important to use a waterproofing membrane to prevent water from escaping through, especially when the bathroom is on the top floor.
